Summer is in full swing and it’s about to heat up! Have no fear, we found some fun and creative ways to keep you cool and hydrated.

We all know that water is the best way to keep hydrated but did you know there’s lots of hydrating foods out there too? Watermelon, strawberries, cantaloupe, oranges, and grapes are excellent sources of hydration, with water content ranging from 90% to 97%.

Here are some creative ways to beat the heat:

Water-Based Fun:

·        Water Balloon Fight: A classic and fun way to cool down, especially for kids. 

·        DIY Slip and Slide: A thrilling and refreshing activity for all ages. 

·        Sprinklers: A low-cost and enjoyable way to cool off. 

·        Ice Cube Necklace: String together plastic ice cubes for a fun and cool accessory. 

 

Cooling Accessories:

·        Cooling Towels: Drape a damp cooling towel around your neck for quick relief. 

·        Portable Fans: Keep a small fan handy to circulate air and create a breeze. 

·        Misting Water Bottle: Spritz yourself with cool water for a refreshing mist. 

·        Ice Pack Hat: Wear a hat with an ice pack for direct cooling on your head. 

 

Home Cooling Hacks:

·        DIY Swamp Cooler: Create a DIY air conditioner with a fan and a bowl of ice. 

·        Blackout Curtains: Use blackout curtains to block out the sun and keep heat out. 

·        Close Windows During the Day: Close windows and blinds during the hottest parts of the day. 

·        Open Windows at Night: Open windows at night to let in cooler air. 

·        Change Bedding: Use breathable, light-colored linen or cotton sheets. 

 

Other Creative Ideas:

Freeze Fruit: Freeze grapes, berries, or other fruits for a cool and refreshing treat. ***Not for children under 4 years due to choking hazard & always eat while seated and supervised***

·        Cold Compresses: Apply cold compresses to your wrists, neck, or forehead. 

·        Eat Cooling Foods: Consume foods like cucumbers, salads, and fruits. 

·        Spicy Foods: While it may seem counterintuitive, spicy foods can help you sweat and cool down. (check out this recipe below).

·        Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water and consider infused water or iced tea. 

 

 

Chili-lime Watermelon Popsicles:

You’ll need:

6 cups of cubed watermelon

2 TBSP of honey

1 lime, juiced, zested and divided.

3 TBSP of Kosher salt

2 tsp chili powder

 

Instructions:

1.       Combine watermelon, honey and lime juice in a blender and blend until smooth.

2.       Divide watermelon mixture into popsicle molds and freeze for at least 4 hours.

3.       Meanwhile combine Kosher salt, remaining lime, zest and chili powder in a small bowl

4.       Unmold popsicles and sprinkle with chili mixture.
